Snapshot on Jesuit Conference Office of Justice and Ecology

Loving one another in truth and action

Washington, DC – This is the latest in a series of “snapshots” on the Interfaith Immigration Coalition (IIC) and its member organizations. 

Who They Are: The Jesuit Conference Office of Justice and Ecology (OJE) advocates, networks and educates for social and environmental justice, placing the voices of marginalized communities at the center of our work.(https://jesuits.org/justice / @JesuitJustice

What They Do: OJE advocates on behalf of the president and provincials of the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States, supporting policies that foster right relationship with humanity and our common home. OJE’s priority issues are migration, criminal justice reform, environmental justice and economic justice.

Where They Operate: OJE works closely with Jesuit institutions across the United States, Canada and Latin America. In addition to a small number of ministries that provide direct social services, the Jesuit presence in these countries includes many universities, secondary schools, parishes and retreat centers.

Core Values: 

  • Faith: Our work is rooted in the Catholic social tradition and Ignatian spirituality.  
  • Collaboration: We work for the common good with Jesuit ministries and other Catholic, faith-based and secular organizations. 
  • Social Analysis: Our advocacy draws on the research of Jesuit institutes and other partners. 

Noted For: 

  • Conducting advocacy on Capitol Hill on issues such as migration and criminal, economic, and environmental justice
  • Participation in national, regional and global Jesuit networks, such as the Red Jesuita con Migrantes and Ecojesuit

The Interfaith Immigration Coalition is made up of 53 national, faith-based organizations brought together across many theological traditions with a common call to seek just policies that lift up the God-given dignity of every individual. In partnership, we work to protect the rights, dignity, and safety of all refugees and migrants.
