339 Faith-Based Groups and 1,356 Leaders Call for End to Anti-Immigrant “COVID” Policies

339 faith-based organizations and 1,356 faith leaders from all fifty states, plus DC, are issuing an open letter to policymakers at all levels, demanding an end to anti-immigrant policies put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. The letter comes on the same day that a proposed rule to completely gut the asylum system is being published in the Federal Register.

Denouncing Extension of Border Lockdown

The New York Times reports that the Trump administration plans to extend its border closure indefinitely, citing the coronavirus pandemic. The ban would keep regions in the north and south of the United States, whose economies rely on the dynamic flow of goods and people across borders, on lock down for the foreseeable future.

It would also trap asylum-seekers outside of the United States and keep them in harm’s way, a goal that President Trump and White House aide Stephen Miller have attempted to achieve through numerous other means over the past three years.
